Granite is a natural stone, and therefore it is porous and needs to be sealed. Regular granite sealers
are inexpensive and are easy to use. Because the sealers vary in quality, we recommend using a
STONE-TECH brand granite sealer. Please keep in mind that you can also upgrade any one of our
in-stock granite slabs to be sealed with our new permanent sealer, or pick a permanently sealed slab
from www.slabyard.com.
Cleaning Your Granite Countertops:
DO:
Clean your granite countertops daily with warm water and a sponge. You may also want to use a
sponge soaked in warm water and regular dish soap, as long as it is chemical free (most are chemical
free).
DO NOT:
Use any kind of chemical cleaner on your granite countertops. Chemical cleaners will take the sealer
out of the granite. If a chemical cleaner has been applied to your granite countertops, even if it is a
small amount, immediately reapply sealer on the infected area.
Sealing Your Granite Countertops:
WHEN TO RESEAL YOUR GRANITE COUNTERTOPS:
When we install your countertops, we apply our standard sealer, and the sealer lasts anywhere from
about 6 month to 2 years. The porosity of the stone varies according to the color of granite, and
because some colors are naturally more porous than others, they may use up more sealer, and they also may need to be resealed more often. A great way to check if your granite
countertop needs to be resealed is to place a drop of water on your countertop, and if the water stays
on the countertops in a water droplet form, the sealer is still holding up. If the water does not stay and
is seeping through the pours, then you would need to reseal your granite countertops.
HOW TO SEAL YOUR GRANITE COUNTERTOPS:
1. Make sure your countertop surfaces are clean. You may use soap and water or a granite cleaner.
2. Apply the sealer onto the granite using a cloth or a brush (for less waist use a brush).
3. Leave the sealer on the countertop surfaces for about 5 minutes to allow it to penetrate the pours.
4. Wipe down your countertops.
Quartz: Care and Maintenance
Just to name a few, Silestone, Caesarstone, Zodiaq, Onestone, Hanstone, are all quartz products.
Quartz countertops are not man-made, but they are man-engineered. Most quartz products are
composed of about 93% natural quartz, and the rest is polyester resin. Quartz is compacted under
heat and pressure to create an extremely durable and non-porous surface.
CLEANING:
Regular cleaning with most chemical and non-chemical cleaners is allowed as long as they do not contain bleach. No sealing of Quartz is necessary since quartz is non-porous.
